Fat travel

Summer travel season is here. Both my wife and I are over 400 pounds and middle aged. So squeezing into airplane seats is not something we want to do. But we like to see friends, family and sights. For a number of years now we have “perfected” the art of road-tripping for fat people. We have kept our older Dodge minivan as a roomy, comfy trip mobile and make sure it’s in good mechanical condition (the optics are a different matter entirely 🤣). We don’t plan marathon driving days. We generally keep the actual driving time around 6 hours per day and time on the road around 8 (to allow for pit stops etc.). We always make sure we have a motel with a disability (i.e. fat friendly shower) friendly room lined up for the end of each trip day. My wife always researches and maps out all the rest stops and fast food places along our route to make sure we can get couple of meals in during the day. We also make sure that there are places to pick up food we like close to the motel for the night. We do enjoy a big meal after a day of driving 😉. We also always take our wedge pillows and a sturdy shower chair with us to make sure we’re comfortable at the motel. We have traveled like that very comfortably across much of the US over the last couple of years!
